I saved a caterpillar from getting beaten down by hundreds of nike, hoka, and adidas shoes today. She was bright green, but many wouldn’t be able to tell because she was dusted in dirt from the trail, making her weighed down and weak from carrying the extra weight. I crouched down, looked at her for a second and thought about how simple life would be as a caterpillar, then picked up a twig laying next to her and lifted her up, and gently put her back in the bushes. To be a caterpillar is to be an even smaller but equally as important part of this whole ecosystem than we are– each one important for the greater good of this earth. It is to take one step at a time, inch by inch. It is to embrace change, even if it leaves you dusty and covered in dirt for a while because you will somehow, someway make it to the bushes to become your fullest self. To be a caterpillar is to love and be loved. Thank you to this baby bug for reminding me i’m on the right path, that growth is not linear, and to love everyone, no matter what path they take, in the process of evolving.
